About the event

Run along the beautiful Ahuriri Estuary

The Ahuriri Half Marathon takes runners through some of Hawke's Bay's most stunning scenery — from the historic Ahuriri waterfront along the coast and back.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, tackling your first 10km, or teaming up with friends for the relay, this event is designed for runners of all abilities.

All finishers receive a medal, and post-race refreshments will be available at the finish line.

The route

Course overview

A flat, scenic out-and-back course starting and finishing at the Ahuriri Waterfront. The half marathon completes two loops; the 10km completes one. Relay change-over zones are at approximately 5km, 10km, and 15km.

Frequently asked questions

What events are on offer? +
There are three events: the Half Marathon (21.1km, $40), the 10km run ($25), and a 4-person relay team for the half marathon distance at $20 per person ($80 per team). All events start and finish at the Ahuriri Waterfront in Napier.
How does the relay work? +
The relay is for teams of 4 people, each running approximately 5km. Change-over zones are located at around the 5km, 10km, and 15km marks of the course. Each team member receives a finisher medal.
When and where does the race start? +
The race starts at the Ahuriri Waterfront, Napier, on Sunday 11 October 2026. See the event timetable above for the full race day schedule, including registration, briefing, and start times.
Is there a minimum age to enter? +
Participants must be at least 16 years of age on race day to enter the half marathon. Participants must be at least 12 years of age on race day to enter the 10km. There is no age limit for relay team members.
Is there a time limit? +
Yes, there will be a 3 hour time limit for all distances.
Can I run with a dog or pushchair? +
While we want this event to be as inclusive as possible, from a health & safety perspective we will not be allowing participants to run/walk with a dog or pushchair.
Can I transfer or defer my entry? +
Transfer and deferral policies will be outlined at the time registrations open.
Is there parking nearby? +
Yes, there is parking available in the Ahuriri area. Detailed directions and parking information will be included in your pre-race briefing email.
Can I download the GPX course file? +
Yes! You can download the GPX file from the course section above to load onto your GPS watch or device before race day.
